Specialties

Dr. Lucian Warth is a board certified and fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in primary and revision hip and knee replacements.

Dr. Warth completed his fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, one of the top joint replacement facilities in the country. Because joint replacement is the sole focus of his practice, Dr. Warth has experience with a wide variety of cases, even the most complex. He frequently takes on patients that have been turned away by other surgeons. His goal is to improve the quality of life for patients with joint issues, and he considers this the most rewarding aspect of his practice.

Total Hip Replacement

When hip arthritis affects daily life and symptoms do not improve with nonsurgical treatment, hip replacement surgery is an excellent option to get back to an active, pain-free lifestyle. Dr. Warth is fellowship trained to perform all three surgical approaches to total hip replacement (Posterior, Anterior, Anterolateral). While internet marketing is robust for robotic and anterior approach total hip replacement, Dr. Warth utilizes a minimally invasive posterior approach for total hip replacement. Current research demonstrates equivalent patient outcomes and recovery when comparing anterior and posterior approaches, while the posterior approach is much more versatile.

Knee Replacement Surgery

Knee replacement surgery is typically considered when knee arthritis affects a patient’s mobility and everyday life. Dr. Warth is experienced in several different knee replacement techniques to recommend the option that is best suited to the patient’s individual needs. This includes total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, cementless knee replacement, and computer-assisted knee replacement. Depending on the procedure and the patient’s health, most are able to return home the day of surgery.

Joint Infection Treatment

Dr. Warth and other orthopedic surgeons take several precautions before and after surgery to minimize infection risks. However, there is a small risk of infection even in the most diligent hands. Sometimes, joint infections occur years down the line due to unrelated issues. When an infection has reached the joint, it tends to be a complex case that often needs a staged treatment approach, including a revision procedure. Because Dr. Warth is experienced with treating complex cases, he often treats patients who have developed joint infections after an initial joint replacement surgery. His treatment recommendations are tailored to each patient in conjunction with an Infectious Disease specialist.

Revision Hip & Knee Replacement

Though hip and knee replacements typically last for several years, and often for the remainder of a patient’s life, some patients will need a revision or ‘re-do’ procedure. There are several reasons why a patient might need a revision hip or knee replacement, including infection, dislocation, or simply wearing out the original joint replacement after many years. Revision hip and knee replacements are more complex than the original procedure, so it is important to select a surgeon like Dr. Warth who is experienced with revisions.
